Project 511 launched Operation Seating to provide the basic facility of furniture in Government schools. In most Government schools, the children sit directly on the floor in the classrooms. In the absence of cleaning staff, these children sit on the floor in the most unhygienic conditions.

As the children spend almost seven hours in the school sitting on the floor, it affects their posture and growth. It also reduces their attention span as they feel uncomfortable sitting continuously for long hours.

Some opinions of the Orthopedic Surgeon we consulted :

• Children sitting on the floor and reading & writing are prone to get back ache & neck pain.

• Carpets are not going to substitute but rather create an unhygienic atmosphere as they are not maintained properly.
  
  
• It is advisable for children to sit on dual desks rather than sitting on the floor as it can lead to curvature of the spine getting deformed in their growing age.
